We continue to get moisture. I was gone for the better part of a week and dumped 1.22 inches out of the rain gauge today. Most of that fell the end of last week. Worked out good for us as the winter wheat was finished Thursday the 21st, just before the rain started. As you can see in the pictures it is emerging. We will see if the "green bridge" was broken long enough to prevent wheat streak. We don't have a lot of distance to work with in the plots, so I will be looking forward to wheat streak resistant varieties as they become available. Radiant is one that we were looking at but things fell through at the end to receive enough quantity. Blake Vandervorst of Ducks Unlimited will probably have some again in his plots. If wheat streak resistance is something that you are interested, keep watching as there are other varieties in the pipeline. Progress has been a little slow in getting the beans off with the moisture. Little popcorn showers are keeping things a little damp, but looks like that will change the next few days with what looks to be Indian summer. When I got back home my recorded low temperature was 26. Sure was glad I had winterized the sprayers!
