I am not sure what is going on this spring, but it is just too nice! After getting the Amity drill tuned up, she worked like an absolute charm! Our thanks to Joe Breker for doing the updating work and Amity for supplying parts! We also want to thank Dave Kinzler for supplying the Prosper wheat seed. We seeded most of the big plot of wheat last Monday, finished on Tuesday. I will still plant some more wheat depending on confirmation of some other projects we are looking at. The ground was beautiful. We seeded right across the drains, no mud! Since we are seeding big plots, we were going across all the different crops, including corn, soybeans, peas, and wheat. It will be a very good disease challenge especially on the corn and winter wheat ground. But, this is what we have to do to set up the plots for our new phase of demonstration.
We got a nice little shot of rain the night after seeding, about a ¼ to ½ inch. I had not put the gauges out yet because of low temps, but it should be enough to get the wheat germinated. After putting in a little more wheat, we plan on a few small plots of peas.
