2007 Winter wheat yields2007 Spring wheat yields

August 5, 2007

It's been a busy couple of weeks. We finished the spring wheat August 3, planted the alfalfa plots, and put some peas in as a cover crop on rotation H, 3 winter wheat plots. The mighty 3300 combine suffered a bearing loss that Dave Robbins worked feverishly to get back together before the spring wheat needed to be combined and he made it. We got an unexpected 2.5- 3.00 inches of rain the first week in August that will pretty much bring the soybeans and corn home. It may have taken a little test weight out of the spring wheat but it still was in the 61-62 neighborhood. Click on the above link for all the plot yields. The average was 57 bu, 13.75 protien and test weight was 61.2 .The variety is Howard.

I was able to find a very small number of soybean aphids last week. I have not heard of anyone spraying yet. The soybeans are sure looking nice after the rain.

Next on the list will be getting the flax sprayed and combined.

Sounds like there are a lot of good field days to attend in the near future. Walt will be having his field day at the Oakes Irrigation Field trials on the 14th. Also that day there will be a strip till field day near Rothsay.

Have a good week.
