2007 winter wheat yields

July 22, 2007

Harvest begins! Just finished the winter wheat yesterday. Yields look to be about what I expected in the 60's and 70's.You can check out the winter wheat yields by clicking on the button above.  This is CDC Buteo winter wheat, which is a pretty new variety. It is a little taller than the CDC Falcon we had last year. Blake Vandervorst would have a lot more information on the agronomics if you would like to know more about it. The wheat did combine a little tough yesterday, but was fine on Friday. The high humidity was the culprit. We just could not knock everything out of the head. The old 3300 probably needs some cylinder work also. The one moisture sample I had run was 13.3 with a test weight of 62.5 and a protein of 12.2. I will post all the numbers when they are in.

The corn shot out tassels early last week and silked by mid week. The corn on corn appears to be about 3-4 days behind and not as uniform.

The soybeans just started to pod. Some plots are still slow in growth and lack a good green color. One plot that I planted to corn by mistake and then planted to beans looks about the best. It has the benefit of 98 lbs of N. No soybean aphids seen yet.

I will pre-harvest spray the spring wheat with round up first chance I get. Maybe late today or Monday.

Flax is getting close to pre-harvest spray as well. Some plots are really weedy so I might just jump the gun a little.

We got a little rain this morning. Just over a 1/4 inch. The corn and beans will start to suffer in the predicted heat if we don't get some more. So far, no stress showing on the crop. But there is a little on those of us who did not sell their corn.

Have a good week.
