CCSP -No till Farm
Grettings!
The predicted rain came, but not as much and not quite as quick as predicted. I dumped out a little more than a 1/4 inch out of the gauge Thursday and we have a had a couple more little shots overnight and this afternoon. I was able to get all but 3 spring wheat plots seeded Tuesday. I want to thank my neighbors David and Julie Hassebroeke for their help with the use of their equipment. It is much appreciated!
The plots are coming to life. The winter wheat in both the shank and disk treatments appears to be doing well. The shank till looks a little farther ahead. The alfalfa in the plots looks fine but we definitely have some winter kill in the alleys. The speculation is that the ice we got the end of November smothered the alfalfa that was harvested late.
There has been little if any field work done locally. I was up 20 miles north last weekend and there is some activity there. The soils are a little lighter and have dried out better. We have not had a lot of precipitation this spring but the soil is fully saturated, and the sloughs filled up so any amount of rain is like a couple inches.
Have a good week.
