Greetings,

Enough rain and cold already, bring on the heat! The forecast is showing 80's for next week, we need it bad. Our corn planted May 3 has had 394 GDU's, normal would be 475. Average accumulation for today is 15, so do the math and we come up 5.4 days behind. Not really all that bad if we can get a little balancing of above normal temps this summer. It sure has put a scare in the market though. Today you could sell corn here at Forman for $6.82. Contract new crop for $6.95. Absolutely unbelievable. Problem is, it is a long way to the bin. I talked to one local farmer who is hauling in 07 corn and smiling all the way to the bank as they say!

We had some more rain this week. Here are the stats .

  • 5/24-  0.10
  • 5/30-  0.82
  • 6/3-    0.69
  • 6/4-    0.24
  • 6/8-    1.11
  • 6/11-  1.13

    Total of 4.09

With out much heat this spring it did not take much of our deep moisture away, so the 4 inches of rain has made things pretty wet again. Overall weed control does not seem to be as good as it should be as well. But the beans are all coming! With out that first rain many would have been in trouble. We managed to get some spot spraying done in the beans and corn. I hope next week to cover everything. Winter wheat is starting to head out so we will be hitting that with Proline shortly.

We are finalizing plans for the field day July 10. Make plans to attend. Starting time will be 4:00. Watch here for further details.

    Have a safe week.
