Update for October 20, 2008

CCSP -No till Farm

October 20, 2008

Greetings,

We have received too much rain once again. About 5 inches seems to be a common amount in the area. Too much rain is better than too little, but still is tough to deal with. Soybeans are still being combined but I think most guys are about done. More rain predicted tomorrow, Tuesday, so hope it is light. Some corn is just starting to come off as well with a couple people going. Dave and I are going to try to take the yields off the end of the week. We have a little work to do on the corn head and then we should be ready to go. I shelled out 3 ears from Dekalb 4327 which is a 93 day and it was 20%. They say you need to add 3 points so we probably are not too far away. I have heard others say that their corn is 30 or higher also. I think a lot depends on how dry you were when the hot winds labor day hit. If you had good soil moisture the corn stayed alive and there should be some pretty goods yields since we just got a killing frost a couple of nights ago.

We are getting the CaseIH 5310 strip till machine ready to go. They sent us some Sunco Residue managers to put on as well as gauge wheels. We will see how things work in the wet conditions.

Good luck harvesting and be safe.

Have a good week.
